Former Basel manager Murat Yakin is planning to sign Chelsea midfielder Mohamed Salah for Spartak Moscow in January.
The Egyptian international joined the West London club earlier this year during the last season’s mid-season transfer window. He was signed by Jose Mourinho as a replacement for Juan Mata, who was signed by Manchester United.
Mata has been one of the star players at Old Trafford, while Salah has struggled to impress the former Real Madrid manager in order to get playing time under his belt. Yakin, who has worked with Salah at Basel is now looking to sign his former player for the Russia outfit.
“I want to sign both Salah and Fabian Frei (still at Basel). I know both players well,” Yakin told London Standard.
“I know the economic situation in Russia is not the best, but the club can afford both players’ wages.”
“The club president promised a surprise in the upcoming transfer market; I spoke with him about both Salah and Frei and I hope it will happen, that’d be my Christmas present. I’ll do whatever it takes to get Salah in the team, even if I have to beg for it.”
It should be seen whether Mourinho will be willing to part ways with the attacking midfielder when the transfer window re-opens next month. Allowing Salah to leave Stamford Bridge will not have any impact on Chelsea’s squad, especially after he has been a fringe player for the Blues.
