Chelsea have earmarked Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane as a possible replacement of David Luiz, who will join PSG in the summer.
Spanish newspaper Marca published earlier this month that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is keen to secure the signature of Varane. Mourinho gave the French youngster a platform to express his vast talent during his time at Madrid and now wants to work with him again at Chelsea.
Couple of days back The Guardian reported that Chelsea are exploring the possibility of signing the highly talented Varane, who Mourinho hailed as “the best young centre back in the World”.
Varane has had an injury ravaged campaign as a result of which he dropped down the pecking orders in Carlo Ancelotti’s system. However, he did put up an impressive performance in the Champions League final, helping Madrid win the La Decima.
According to an Exclusive report from Bernabeu digital, Chelsea have made Varane their first priority and have already put up a firm offer on the table for him.
Varane has a good working relationship with Mourinho and therefore could make a move to London, as he doesn’t like to be seen as a substitute figure for Pepe & Ramos. However, before making any decision he wants to ensure whether he features in the long term plans of Ancelotti or not.
