Former Arsenal defender, Sol Campbell, is confident that Alexis Sánchez will sign a contract extension with the Gunners. The chilean, who earns £140k-per-week, has only 18 months left on his current deal, and he is yet to sign a new contract with Arsenal. Several heavyweight European clubs are interested in signing him, but Campbell hopes that the Arsenal board can get a deal done with their star player.

Sánchez has been in terrific form this season for the Gunners, and his 98th minute Panenka penalty to earn Arsenal a 2-1 victory against Burnley took his goal tally to 17 in all competitions.

Campbell says that Sánchez is one of the few players who have come to Arsenal and started performing straightaway. The former defender adds that Sánchez ’s penalty against Burnley reminds him of Arsenal legend Thierry Henry who used to score such type of goals for the north Londoners.

Campbell told Premier League Daily, as quoted by Sky Sports:

I think there are a lot of things behind the scenes and it’s all about cutting a deal, getting the deal done and sometimes compromising.

Depending on how far the compromises go, it could be him compromising, it could be the club compromising, who knows? But I think everyone is out there to get the deal done.

That fantastic penalty reminds me of Thierry Henry, he used to score a lot of those type of penalties.

But he [Sanchez] has comes in, his attitude is tremendous, he is one of the players that I have seen in the last five to 10 years that has come into Arsenal and bang, straight away he is working, he’s scoring goals and he’s into it.

He’s not taken six months to get going or one year to get going at the club, so that should keep him in good stead. Hopefully the board come and get the deal done.

Following Arsenal’s dramatic victory over the Clarets, the Gunners have moved above arch-rivals Tottenham into second spot. They are still eight points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea. Arsenal travel to Stamford Bridge next month, and that game could prove to be the defining clash for the Gunners’ title hopes.

Campbell also added that Chelsea are looking to sign Swansea striker, Fernando Llorente in the January transfer window. The 31-year-old striker scored twice on Saturday, as Swansea stunned Liverpool with a 3-2 victory at Anfield.

They are looking at Llorente. Antonio Conte has experience with him [at Juventus]. It’s difficult to replace a guy like Diego Costa. He’s come from Atletico, a top top player.

Llorente, meanwhile, has declared that he is happy at Swansea, and is not looking for a move. In fact, Llorente should resist all offers thrown at him. He is getting regular games and enjoying his football at the Welsh club. Swansea are in a difficult position at the moment, fighting for survival in the league, but it seems Llorente is relishing the challenge of taking his club to safety. At Chelsea he may earn more salary than what he is earning at Swansea, but at the London club he will merely be used as a back-up option for Costa.
