Sir Alex Ferguson ecstatic now that Nemanja Vidic has agreed personal terms to a new contract

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson expresses his delight after Nemanja Vidic commited his future to the club.

The Scot has revealed that the Serbian has agreed to extend his contract for a further four years which gives him a huge boost looking at Rio Ferdinand’s crisis with injury.

Vidic has been linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid with Jose Mourinho keen to sign a defender but Manchester United have brushed all the speculation by agreeing the extension of his contract.

Ferguson said to the press:

“In the modern game, it is not easy to renew players’ contracts when they do well, particulary those from other countries.”

“Over the last year or so, there has been speculation about Nemanja time and time again, sometimes by the press, sometimes by other sources. But wenever had a strong feeling that he really wanted to leave. There is always concern if they do well, they will want better contracts.”

“At the end of the day, we have managed to acheive the task of  getting him to agree a four-year contract.”

“We are delighted because he is a fantastic centre-half, a great competitor with a marvellous attitude to win games. It strengthens our hand.”

Ferguson also talked about the injuries of other vital players like Rio Ferdinand and Owen Hargreaves.

“Rio should be six weeks. It was a ligament problem afterall.”

“I am not sure if Owen will be back by the beginning of the season though.”

However, Gary Neville returned to training onFriday, and Antonio Valencia should be back by Monday.
