Manchester United legend, Sir Alex Ferguson has backed the new Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp to succeed in the Premier League.

Klopp is only the second German to manage in the Premier League after Felix Magath. Unlike his compatriot, Klopp has been tipped to succeed at Anfield this season and beyond.

Ferguson said that several foreign managers have succeeded over the years and there is no reason why a German cannot do the same.

“Absolutely [they can succeed],” he told.

“Of course. Only a few English managers work in the Premier League – the last time one won the title was in 1992.

“Scots, Portuguese, Spanish, French and Italians work successfully here so why not Germans? There’s no reason why they couldn’t approach it with confidence.”

Furthermore, Ferguson also commented on the complex nature of transfers at Liverpool. The infamous transfer committee has often been blamed for Liverpool’s failure in the market and Fergie says he would have struggled to cope with it.

“Although a lot of things have changed, the manager still has to have the last words on buying players,” he said. “There are organisations that say to a manager, ‘These are our players for next year.’

“I doubt that I could deal with that. They take away responsibility from you but you don’t know who you’ll get.”

Elsewhere, Spanish media are shocked with Van Gaal’s cruelty towards Victor Valdes.

The Manchester United keeper has been isolated from rest of the squad and is being made to train alone.

According to reports, the former Barcelona player is not allowed to use his locker and has been asked to train in different schedules. For example, if the rest of the team trains in the morning, he has to train in the afternoon and vice versa.

Van Gaal has made sure that under no circumstances will Valdes meet his colleagues at the club.

It is evident that the Spanish keeper has no future at the club and will have to move when the window re-opens.

Valdes was close to an exit in the summer and the Spaniard must be wishing that his move to Besiktas materialized.
