Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos will sign his new contract within this week, as early as this coming Thursday, according to reports.
The Spanish defender, who has been a reported summer transfer target of Manchester United, is set to sign a contract extension with Los Blancos this very same Thursday, according to reports from La Sexta, via Managing Madrid.
Ramos was unhappy with the way the club had treated him and he wanted to leave the La Liga giants in the summer. United were encouraged by his desire to leave and had even lodged a €60m bid for his signature.
The Spain international wanted to increase his salary from €6m per year to €10m per year, but as per reports, he will earn around €8m year while his new contract will expire in 2020.
It is now clear that Ramos’s camp deliberately had spread the news of his desire to leave Real Madrid in order to force the club to hand him a new deal. He wanted more money and he basically used United in the process, especially knowing that the Premier League giants have a battle in hand keeping their star player David de Gea, who is again wanted by Real Madrid.
Real Madrid are likely to announce the new deal this Thursday. It will be interesting to hear what Ramos had to say about his transfer saga and his so-called bad relationship with Florentino Perez. Probably he will deny such reports!
