SAF’s star signing confident Manchester United will bounce back

Manchester-United-v-Fulham-Robin-van-Persie-p_2817196Robin van Persie says Manchester United will bounce back despite their failure to seal the first win of the new Premier League season.

Juan Mata gave a lead to Louis van Gaal’s side early in the first half before it was cancelled by the former Manchester City midfielder Jack Rodwell’s header few minutes later. The match at the Stadium of Light ended in a 1-1 draw.

The first fixture of the season saw the Red Devils suffer a 1-2 defeat at the hands of Swansea City at Old Trafford. United and Van Gaal are in search of their first win of the season. Despite the result, Van Persie believes the 20-time English champions will improve over the next few games.

“We dropped two points today. Clearly we came here to win, and if you go in front after 15 minutes or so, we should have at least held on to that for longer. We were a bit too sloppy in possession, and in that sense we made it too hard for ourselves,” he told the club’s official website.

“We’ve played two games and only picked up one point, we would have loved to have got six points but it didn’t happen, so we have to bounce back. I feel good, I feel fit. I had a good few weeks of training and played my first hour today, so I’ll look forward to the next game.”

United are on the verge of completing a deal for Real Madrid star Angel Di Maria, while their other summer signings are ineligible to feature to play. Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera are injured while Marcos Rojo is yet to receive his work permit.

The Red Devils’ fans would be hoping that the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager could help United to reach on top once again.

The Dutch international was signed by United’s former manager Sir Alex Ferguson and he went on to win the league in his debut season. However, after the great Old Trafford elder’s retirement, Van Persie struggled under David Moyes during the previous season.

The former Arsenal skipper would be hoping to revive his career under his compatriot’s guidance this season.
