Brendan Rodgers has finally delivered some positive news to the Liverpool fans. While the club is doing fine on the pitch, Liverpool are yet to tie up their star players, like Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling with a new contract.
The Reds manager was baffled to see Raheem Sterling has rejected the latest contract offer, but at the same time he is relaxed that the England international would sign a new deal, sooner or later.
Jon Flanagan, like Sterling and Henderson, has few months’ remaining on his contract and doubts circled about his long term future at the club.
The youngster returned to full training last week after missing the entire season following knee surgery and won’t be considered for Liverpool’s trip to Swansea on Monday night.
Rodgers sees Flanagan as big part of Liverpool’s future and insists that the Liverpool-born defender will be given a new contract in coming months.
“Hopefully Flanno’s contract will be sorted out,” Rodgers said, as quoted by Liverpool Echo.
“He is working his way back to fitness and when that happens I am sure the contract will get sorted out.
“He is a big part of the future here. He did remarkably well last year and showed he is player who can play for many years at this level.”
The 22-year-old played a big part in Liverpool’s title challenge last season and Rodgers hopes he will soon be competing for a first-team spot this season.
