Liverpool suffered their first defeat of the season after losing out 1-0 against Southampton at Anfield on Saturday. Manager Brendan Rodgers accepts that their performance against the Saints was pretty flat and is hoping for his team to recover well and go on another good run from here on.

The Reds started the season brilliantly, winning their first three matches on the trot. This was followed by a 2-2 draw against Swansea and a shock 1-0 defeat against Saints at Anfield.

A second-half header from Dejan Lovren earned the visitors full three points and ended the Reds’ unbeaten run to the season. Rodgers said as quoted in the club’s official website:

“We were nowhere near our level – the result was a big disappointment for us and equally the performance,”

“We just never got going, we were very flat and technically we were a way short of the level we have been at for a long time. So it’s disappointing to lose.

“But we’ll put it behind us, we’ll analyse the game, reflect on it, and hopefully we’ll recover well now and look to go on another run.”

Rodgers has expressed his excitement about the timely return of Luis Suarez to the squad, following his 10-man suspensions. The Uruguayan is expected to feature against Manchester United in the third round of League Cup on Wednesday.

Liverpool can expect to build on their early performances from here on, as the Reds will have some easy fixtures to deal with. The Reds will face Sunderland, Crystal Palace, Newcastle and West Brom till October and Rodgers would definitely be targeting to pick up maximum points from the above games.
