Two years ago today, Robinho left Real Madrd for Manchester City in a stunning deadline-day deal that kicked off the big spending that’s since become commonplace at Eastlands.
Today, Robinho has ended his disappointing two-year stint at City and signed for AC Milan in a deal reportedly worth £18m up front.
A statement from AC Milan read: “AC Milan announces it has acquired player Robinho on a permanent deal from Manchester City. The Brazilian player has signed a four-year contract with the Rossoneri club.”
Along with the initial £18m, The Guardian says that AC Milan could pay up to £3m more in performance-based add-ons, and that Robinho won’t receive a £2m loyalty bonus he was set to receive in two weeks’ time.
Yesterday, AC Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi hinted at a move for the Brazilian foreard, and the 26-year-old becomes the second marquee signing for the Rossoneri in quick succession, following the arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic from Barcelona on an initial loan deal.
