Valencia forward Roberto Soldado is expected to join Tottenham Hotspur in the next couple of days, as per reports from The Daily Mail.

The North London club have triggered his release clause, believed to be in the region of £25million and are ironing out the final details of the proposed transfer of the striker to White Hart Lane over the coming days. The 28-year-old was linked with Spurs last season too, but then he turned down the offer with a view to playing in the Champions League; however he is keen to make a move now after Valencia failed to qualify for the Champions League.

It is understood that Tottenham sporting director Franco Baldini has been in Valencia negotiating a deal for the striker. Initially Spurs were not too keen to activate his release clause and wanted to wait in order for his value to drop further, but later changed their stance, when Liverpool showed interest in the player.

Spurs were looking for a proven goalscorer for quite some time now. With only 16 goals scored by the two strikers combined at the club last season, no wonder why manager Andre Villas-Boas was so eager to land a top class striker to solve his striking problems.

Soldado could be the right man to ease Spurs’ woes. The Spain international is enjoying the form of his life, having scored 25 and more goals for Valencia in each of his last three seasons.

The former Getafe striker would be a terrific signing for the London club. Goals are guaranteed from him, if he is fed with proper services. Most importantly, Spurs are signing a player, who is playing at the peak of his career. Last season, he has scored 30 goals in all competitions and one can expect him to continue his rich vein of form for another two to three seasons.

So far, it has been an excellent summer for the Spurs, having signed two very good players in the form of Nacer Chadli and Paulinho, and one can expect more quality influx in the coming month IF Gareth Bale is transferred to Real Madrid.
