According to reports from Eurosport France, Leicester City forward Riyad Mahrez wishes to join Premier League club Arsenal this summer.

Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri has said previously that he wishes to keep hold of his star player but it seems Mahrez has decided to leave the Premier League champions.

Claudio Ranieri said to the press this week: “It is over, the market is closed here. Mahrez wants to stay.” However, it seems the interest from Arsenal is genuine and he won’t block Mahrez’s move, should the forward decided to leave.

Chelsea, who already signed Leicester City midfielder N’Golo Kante this summer, are also reportedly interested in signing the Algerian but it seems Mahrez could be heading towards North London.

Arsenal are prearing a massive bid of around £42m (€50m mark) for Mahrez and Leicester are likely to accept the offer for the Algerian international. At this moment, no fee has been agreed but Arsenal have made the initial move.

The Gunners have reportedly met with the player’s agent on Friday to discuss the transfer move. As it stands, the move depends upon Mahrez’s decision as Leicester will not stand in his way.

Mahrez is a top player, no doubt, but is he the type of player Arsenal need at the moment? The Gunners are choc-a-bloc with attacking midfielders and stuffing the squad with yet another similar type of player doesn’t make such sense.
