According to Kara (via Sport Witness), Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has identified Trabzonspor striker Caleb Ekuban as an option should Alfredo Morelos leave Ibrox this summer.

The Gers aren’t the only side interested in the services of the 26-year-old, though, with Celtic also keen.

Hoops boss Neil Lennon wants to boost his attacking options ahead of next season, and Ekuban is seen as capable of providing quality cover for Odsonne Edouard.

The Ghanaian international has played a key role as Trabzonspor look to win the Turkish Super Lig this term, scoring eight goals in 25 appearances.

The former Leeds United striker is highly valued at his club, and they are not in a rush to sell with two years still left on his current contract.

However, a good offer could force them to part ways with Ekuban this summer, and both Celtic and Rangers will have to pay more than the €1 million the Turkish giants parted with for his signature last summer.

The Light Blues are aware it could be impossible to hold on to Morelos beyond this summer as he has attracted plenty of suitors across Europe’s big leagues.

They can’t rely on the ageing Jermain Defoe going forward, and Ekuban could be a fine signing given his pace and strong physique.

Edouard could also be looking to leave Parkhead at the end of the season, and that could see both Rangers and Celtic going head-to-head in the pursuit of the Trabzonspor star striker.
