This summer is going to be massive for several Premier League heavyweights and one of them is Liverpool. The Reds having secured Champions League football, courtesy of their second-placed finish in the league last season, are willing to spend big on young, talented players, in order to shape a good squad, capable of handling the rigours of twin competition of both domestic and Europe simultaneously.
Although Liverpool have bolstered their attacking line up by signing Rickie Lambert, Brendan Rodgers should be focusing on adding quality players in the central midfield department.
Reports emerged first in Germany and later in English media that Liverpool are considering a move for Bayer Leverkusen’s highly rated central midfielder, Emre Can. The Guardian reported few days back that Liverpool will hold further talks for Can to get an idea whether the 20-year-old wants a move to the Merseyside.
Radio Marca now reporting that Real Madrid, the kings of Europe after winning the La Decima, are plotting a move to sign the versatile box-to-box midfielder. The future of Asier Illarramendi has been speculated in the media, while Xabi Alonso is approaching towards the apogee of his career, so any potential move for a young central midfielder this summer, makes sense.
It remains to be seen whether the interest from Madrid is genuine, or whether Liverpool make any formal offer for him or not in coming days.
