Spanish giants Real Madrid are reportedly looking to take advantage of Liverpool’s delay in handing defender Glen Johnson a new contract, by lodging a formal bid in the summer.
Real Madrid are plotting to make a formal bid for Liverpool defender Glen Johnson in the summer, according to reports from the Daily Telegraph.
Liverpool had held preliminary talks with Johnson over a contract extension, over a year ago, but talks have stalled since.
The 29-year-old will enter his final 12 months of his contract next season and it is unlikely that England defender will be offered significantly more than the £110k-a-week he currently earns.
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti is looking for a new right back in the market, as doubts linger over the future of Alvaro Arbeloa. The former Chelsea boss is weighing up a £5m bid for Johnson with the offer of a new challenge in La Liga.
Arsenal are also said to be interested in Johnson, face the prospect of losing Bacary Sagna to either Galatasaray or Inter Milan.
