Raul bagged a brace for his new club as Schalke came from a goal down to beat German champions Bayern Munich in the Liga Total Cup final.
Raul’s predatory instincts are still well intact as he leveled for The Miners after they went a goal down to Deniz Mujic’s opener. Raul tapped the ball into an empty net after Edu’s long rang effort trickled off the post and into the path of the prolific Spaniard. His sense of joy was evident to see as he waved over his new peers to share his moment.
Schalke then took the lead after breaking out on the counter thanks to Jefferson Farfan’s burst of pace before playing in Edu who coolly stroked the ball past Rouven Sattelmaier.
However it was the Bundelsiga’s most decorated import who deservedly grabbed the headlines. His second goal was a work of art as he lofted the ball over Sattelmair with a delicate chip just outside the 18-yard box. The ball elegantly found its way into the net as the Schalke fans applauded the authenticity of the goal. Only a player of Raul’s capabilities could master such a finish – It was a work of art.
Raul’s introduction in Germany has gone swimmingly well thus far. It has been a mix of emotions for the Los Blancos legend this past week after saying his goodbyes to those in Spain and opening a new chapter in his distinguished career in Germany. It is just so wonderful to see him flourish on a football pitch once again.
