Rafa’s Masterplan for Liverpool this January

Liverpool, whilst sitting on top of the Premier League, have yet to convince me that they can go all the way this season. Yes, they have got the results, but not very convincingly. Goals are starting to become hard to find, and as we saw in the West Ham match, without talisman Fernando Torres, Liverpool might need to look take a little dip in the pool.

Robbie Keane has been quite a disappointment this season as many thought he would arrive on the Merseyside and launch a goals-galore partnership with Torres. But it just hasn’t happened, and for the money they paid for him, questions have been starting to arise from the darkness. For me, I think the capture of David Villa from Valencia would be an excellent move for the club. He has all the qualities up front and can produce something out of nothing.

With Torres out injured and no other player’s really getting goals aside from Gerrard and Kuyt, Villa would be a welcome face. Once Torres is one hundred percent fit (whether that is before or after January) he could create a quite lethal partnership with countryman Villa. As we’ve seen with the likes of Adebayor, Tevez and even Rooney, finding the back of the net after returning from injury isn’t as easy as many fans think it is. But Villa, I believe could add those extra goals up front that could possibly see Liverpool race away from the pack.

My Target: David Villa (Valencia FC)

Most of the players at Liverpool have been putting good enough performances to keep them at Anfield, so I cant see many, if any leaving in January.

Most rumour has circled around Robbie Keane, with some fans asking to get rid of the striker, but that would surely be pure stupidity even if he hasn’t performed as many thought he would. Benitez has conveyed confidence in Keane and has given him his backing, so I really cannot see him going anywhere besides the Liverpool change rooms.

We haven’t seen much of Brazilian Lucas this season, after some impressive performances last season. He definitely has talent, so I can’t see Liverpool letting him go, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he was loaned for the second half of the season to build up some confidence and gain much needed game time.

However, attention has been widely withdrawn from forgotten man, Jermaine Pennant. The former Notts, Arsenal, Watford, Leeds and Birmingham man is lost. Benitez told him in the summer that if he didn’t accept a transfer to Stoke in August, he would be played in the reserves. But Pennant reluctantly knocked back the offer preferring to try and ‘fight’ for his position at the club. However, Benitez has stuck to his word and Pennant has had limited opportunity. It seems more than likely Pennant will now go in the market, with Benitez reportedly under pressure to sell him or not look at buying anyone. So it seems likely that the Englishman will be looking for his seventh club in his faltering career.

My Most Likely To Leave: Jermaine Pennant
