According to reports from L’Equipe, Chelsea have almost agreed a deal to sign Colombian striker Radamel Falcao. The French newspaper claim that the deal should be finalized and announced between now and the weekend.

The Falcao to Chelsea transfer rumours had been doing the rounds in the media for a while. Several Chelsea players spoke about their admiration for Falcao, while Jose Mourinho himself hinted of a possible transfer move. However, French media were bit skeptical with these reports, as they speculated Chelsea or any other club might not be willing to meet his high buy-out clause.

Anyway, his €50m buy-out clause is all but a smokescreen. Falcao’s value in the market hasn’t dropped a penny despite enduring a poor campaign with Manchester United last season. Chelsea will sign him on a year loan with a provision of signing him permanently next season.

Falcao has a three year contract left with Monaco, so, if he turns to be a flop again, Chelsea would send him back to his parent club. If Falcao regains his old form and turns out to be a huge hit, Chelsea would negotiate a deal (may be less than €50m) for the Colombian.

Though we think it is highly unlikely the deal would be completed within this week. Falcao is currently playing with his national team at the Copa America, and it seems difficult to announce a transfer move while he is away on international duties.
