Barely a day after Radamel Falcao returned to Monaco after his disappointing loan spell at Manchester United, the Telegraph reports that the Colombian striker could be willing to take a huge pay cut to join Chelsea in the summer.
United had paid £6m to Monaco for Falcao’s services with an option to buy in the summer but manager Louis Van Gaal decided against the move as the 29 year scored just 4 goals in 29 appearances all season. Falcao was on a whopping £265,000-a-week deal at Old Trafford but it is reported that the player is reduce his wages significantly so that he can continue playing in England or more prominently in London.
With Didier Drogba set to leave and Loic Remy’s future uncertain at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea would surely be in the transfer market to sign a quality striker who can challenge Diego Costa for a place in the starting eleven. The Blues have been linked with Inter Milan’s Mauro Icardi but the Argentine is set to sign a contract extension soon as the San Siro side.
Falcao and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho share the same agent, Jorge Mendes which could help the Blues securing a move. But it will be interesting to see if Chelsea are willing to take a risk on the player who barely got going in the highest echelons of English Football.
