The route to making it to this season’s Champions League group stages was pretty much an easy one for Manchester United. The English giants defeated Club Brugge in the two-legged play-off.

Summer signing Memphis Depay was the star for Louis van Gaal’s side in the first leg at Old Trafford with a brace and an assist. In the second leg, club captain Wayne Rooney netted a hat-trick to make sure United sealed a place in the group stages of the Europe’s elite club competition.

United are buzzing at the moment after their victory over Liverpool at Old Trafford over the weekend. The player who made headlines was their summer signing Anthony Martial, who came as a substitute.

The French international scored a late solo goal to seal his side a 3-1 win over their arch-rivals. He could likely come off the bench for United in the European fixture and the former AS Monaco forward will be hoping to find the back of the next for the second time.

PSV completed a thumping 6-0 victory over Cambuur. Luuk de Jong scored a hat trick and was the star player for the Dutch side. Phillip Cocu will be relying on the Dutchman to help his side seal a victory over the Premier League side.

Cocu played under United manager at Barcelona and also for Netherlands. He is aware of the former Bayern Munich manager’s coach methods and that could be handy for him when PSV host the Red Devils in the Champions League fixture.

Depay move to Old Trafford from PSV earlier in the summer. The Dutch international will be making his first return to Philips Stadion since leaving the Eredivisie earlier in May.

Team News

Wayne Rooney missed United’s clash against Liverpool due to a reported hamstring injury. The England international will miss his side’s trip to Eindhoven as the striker is ruled out for the clash.

Defender Phil Jones has not featured this season for the Old Trafford club. He has also not travelled with the squad. For PSV, Jetro Willems and Florian Jozefzoon are the long-term absentees, while Adam Maher will face a late fitness test.
