PSG’s signing of Marquinhos could see Mamadou Sakho exit this summer

Marquinhos-PSG

Ligue One champions Paris Saint Germain recently confirmed the signing of Roma’s highly-rated Brazilian defender Marquinhos for £27M. The 19-year old centre back signed a five-year deal with the French side.

‘Paris Saint-Germain is delighted to announce that Marcos Aoas Correa, known as Marquinhos, has signed a five-year contract with the club after transferring from AS Roma.’ – PSG’s official website.

His arrival now sheds doubt on the future of Mamadou Sakho.

The France international centre-back has expressed his discontent with being a bit-part player with the side – citing how he needs regular playing time to aid his development.

This summer he’s admitted he may be forced to leave the club in search for first-team football. Serie A side AC Milan and Premier League side Liverpool are said to be among the favourites to procure his signature.

‘I want to play for this club my entire life but it has to be clear that I don’t want to sit on the bench. I did not play as much I like last season because of the (former) manager’s choices. Every player wants to play every week and I am no different. I am flattered to be linked with clubs of the history of Liverpool and AC Milan. We will see what happens in the near future.’

Despite Marquinhos’ young age, he made 26 Serie A appearances last season for AS Roma. He will hope to feature on a regular basis for the side after proving he’s up to the task of playing a large number of games and performing consistently.

Sakho, 23, has only one year remaining on his current deal, which could see the Ligue One side cash in on him this summer, rather than risk losing him for nothing at the end of the 2013/14 league campaign.

With the 2014 World Cup approaching at the end of next season, both players will want to put themselves in contention of a call-up for their respective countries. Marquinhos is highly-rated and already held in a high regard at PSG, which could mean Sakho will be forced to leave the side as he now faces even more stiff competition for a starting place.
