Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye has once again been the subject of interest for a number of sides in Europe.
Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain are both said to be preparing bids for the French international.
Last season, he made 26 Premier League appearances, scoring six goals. He’s represented his country on 23 occasions – scoring just the once for France.
PSG manager Laurent Blanc has recently revealed his desire to procure the 27-year old’s signature, and hopes he can persuade Cabaye to join before the summer transfer window closes.
‘He is a very good player. I have not changed my mind (about him). For now, he is at Newcastle. I have also read he is in Tottenham’s plans. Newcastle, Tottenham or Paris – I hope he will be at a big club in September.’
However, Blanc has rattled Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew with his recent comments. Pardew criticised the Frenchman for speaking out of place about Cabaye a month ago, and hasn’t taken to the news well this time around.
‘I don’t think that’s right. He can get on the phone to me, or make a bid. I think that’s the right way to do it. I think the way it’s come out isn’t perhaps respectful to Yohan.
The Newcastle manager sees Blanc as attempting to unsettle his players by making PSG’s interest public knowledge. While Cabaye has never said he is considering his future with the North-East outfit, this summer could see him leave.
Last season, the Magpies were dragged into a relegation battle, and greatly underachieved. With Cabaye being courted by some of the best sides in the world, it’s only a matter of time until he considers an offer put to him in order to achieve his dream of playing in the Champions League again.
The 2014 World Cup is approaching at the end of the 2013/14 campaign, so should the 27-year old leave for the Ligue One champions in the coming week or so, he will need regular playing time this season to keep himself in contention of a call-up for the France squad next summer.
