Manchester United will face Norwich City in the Capital One Cup fourth round tie on Tuesday night at Old Trafford where David Moyes would be looking to give more opportunities to the youngsters in the squad.
The Red Devils defeated arch rivals Liverpool in the last round of the League Cup and although they’re enduring a stuttering start to the season (8th in the league), things are starting look positive for them. They have earned two back to back victories against Real Sociedad and Stoke City and will be looking to keep up the momentum going.
Former United defender Danny Higginbotham feels that the League Cup presents a nice opportunity for David Moyes to groom the young players in the squad.
So, how Manchester United should line-up against a Premier League outfit?
Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic are still yet to recover completely, hence Jonny Evans and Phil Jones will be expected to forge the central defensive partnership, yet again. Brazilian right-back Rafael could start on the right hand side while Alex Buttner could be deployed on the left-back role.
Tom Cleverley could retain his place while Moyes could hand Brazilian midfielder Anderson a rare start. Moyes could give Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie the much needed rest for this tie, so expect Shinji Kagawa to operate from his favourite no 10 position. Antonio Valencia could take-up the right wing role while darling-boy Adnan Januzaj could start as well on the left flank (or as Guardian reported Wilfried Zaha is in line for competitive debut), with Javier Hernandez operating as a lone striker.
Here is the predicted line-up in the 4-2-3-1 formation:
