Liverpool will welcome 19th placed team in the Premier League, Crystal Palace, at Anfield on Saturday, looking to register back to back league victories.
Brendan Rodgers has emphasized on the system 3-4-1-2 he deployed in the last game against Sunderland. The gaffer states that the system has been used to not only incorporate both his in-form strikers but to get the best out of them.
Let me elucidate here. Rodgers had used Luis Suarez as no 10 behind Daniel Sturridge last season in the 4-2-3-1 formation, but he quickly understood that such formation will never going to last long. Suarez is a terrific striker, who brings lot more to the game than just scoring. But, that doesn’t mean he can play anywhere in the pitch.
Rodgers himself said: “The thing I have learned is that Suarez is not a No 10 for me. A No 10 is someone who is more of an offensive midfield player.
“In Suarez and Sturridge, I’ve got what I call two No 9 and a halves. They both like to move, they like to drift and they both like to go into the half positions in between the lines.”
In the midfield Lucas Leiva will miss the tie because of suspension, after picking up five yellow cards. Jordan Henderson could replace him at the centre which will allow either of Raheem Sterling or Iago Aspas to play on the flanks.
