Chelsea will travel to St James’ Park to face Newcastle United on Saturday in the Premier League where Jose Mourinho will be looking to inflict more misery on Alan Pardew’s struggling side.
Mourinho made 10 changes to the side that defeated Arsenal 2-0 in the Capital One tie in the midweek. However, how many of those who started against Arsenal would play against Newcastle remains to be seen. And in all probability, both the goal scorers – César Azpilicueta and Juan Mata – could miss the tie. Such is the depth of the side.
Defence: The Portuguese might give David Luiz a chance here beside John Terry. The Chelsea skipper was rested against Arsenal and should return to the starting line-up again. However, Gary Cahill could be rested here having played back to back matches against Man City and Arsenal.
Midfield: John Obi Mikel started against Arsenal in the last match alongside Michael Essien. But against the Magpies, Mourinho would be looking to field his first choice midfield pair – Ramires and Frank Lampard.
Attacking trio: This is one position where Chelsea have an avalanche of midfielders to pick from. Eden Hazard and Oscar are sure to start while the other slot could go to anyone between Mata, Andre Schurrle and Willian.
Forward: Fernando Torres, who was rested against the Gunners, is showing signs of returning back to his old best and the Spaniard should lead the attacking line on Saturday.
Prediction: 1-3
