Rising French star Eliaquim Mangala has revealed that should he leave Porto in the summer, he would choose a move to Chelsea over newly crowned Premier League champions Manchester City.
Mangala, 23, is making serious waves over in the Portuguese league, and has been strongly linked with a move away from Porto for the past year and a half.
While the likes of Real Madrid have been reported to have shown an interest in recent weeks, it was assumed that City were the lone front-runners for his signature, having also been looking at his teammate Fernando back in January.
But now Chelsea have seemingly stolen a march on their title rivals, with Mangala telling beIN Sport that if he were to have to make a choice between the duo, he would pick the Blues:
“If I had to choose between Manchester City and Chelsea Chelsea I would say, by way of London. I love the Premier League, is a spectacular championship.”
“In January, there was a discussion with Manchester City but then it is not found the agreement. since I sent it to my agent Jorge Mendes does not want to know the market will not end until the World Cup.”
“I am an ambitious player and the team will choose the one that will allow me to win titles. “
While Chelsea are well stocked in defence, a move for Mangala cannot be ruled out, such is the player’s high potential. The Blues look likely to bid farewell to David Luiz this summer, with the Brazilian set for a £30m move to Barcelona, and his exit could pave the way to Mangala’s move, with £12m January signing Kurt Zouma replacing John Terry next season to complete a new-look Chelsea central defence for the future.
What do you think? Will Mangala and Zouma be partners in the heart of the Chelsea backline in the future?
