Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba turned down a lucrative offer to join Chelsea in the summer transfer window. According to reports from Football Italia (who quoted Gazzetta dello Sport), Chelsea were willing to ready to offer €85m to the Bianconeri in their hopes of signing the 22 year old Frenchman.

Following is the front page cover of Gazzetta dello Sport. The yellow part highlighted actually says: “That night Pogba said no to Mourinho and chose Juventus.”

Football Italia had earlier quoted French Media outlet L’Equipe that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho personally made a phone call to Pogba in August to convince the youngster to swap Turin for Stamford Bridge. However, Mourinho was unsuccessful in his bid to convince Pogba and as L’Equipe claims the midfielder would prefer to move to Real Madrid or Barcelona if he leaves Old Lady in the future.

The Blues were also willing to offer the player a salary of €12m per season if he made the move to London. Apart from this, Chelsea were also willing to send Brazilian midfielder Oscar as a part of the deal. L’Equipe however believes (as per Football Italia) that Juventus were not willing to negotiate a deal for Pogba.

It is believed that Pogba told his agent Mino Raiola that he is determined to help the rebuilding process at Juventus as the the club had to deal with the high profile departures of Andrea Pirlo, Arturo Vidal and Carlos Tevez in the summer.

We reported a couple of days ago that Juventus chief executive Giuseppe Marotta laid a hands-off warning to Chelsea by claiming that Paul Pogba will cost more than €100m in the future.

Will we see any club bid over €100m for Pogba in the future? Well, in Football Transfers, you never say never…
