Manchester United have completed their first summer signing after Memphis Depay joined from PSV Eindhoven on Friday.

The 21-year-old played a crucial role in helping his former club win the Eredivisie last season as he was the league’s top scorer with 22 goals. The two clubs had agreed a deal earlier in May for the transfer of the Dutch international to Old Trafford.

Depay has now joined Louis van Gaal’s side on a four-year deal, with an option to extend the deal by further one more year.

A statement on United’s official website read, “Manchester United is delighted to announce that Memphis Depay has completed his transfer from PSV Eindhoven. Memphis joins on a four-year contract with the option to extend for a further year.”

The winger was at PSV since 12 and he leaves the club after developing as one of the top quality player in Europe. Depay is delighted to start a new chapter in his life by joining United.

“This is a dream come true for me; to play for the biggest club in the world and also to have the chance to work with someone who I believe is the best manager in the world, Louis van Gaal. I have great belief in my ability and I work hard to strive to achieve my dreams,” Depay told United’s official website.

“I have been at PSV Eindhoven since I was 12 years old and I would like to thank them for everything. It was a great moment when we won the league and I was so happy to be part of that. This is now a new chapter in my life and one that I am looking forward to.”

Depay is the first signing of the summer transfer window and United fans will be hoping Van Gaal and Ed Woodward could manage to complete few more deals before the start of the pre-season tour, where they travel to the States.
