Liverpool have agreed on a new contract with the highly talented young defensive midfielder Pedro Chirivella.
The young Spanish midfielder was signed from Valencia back in 2013 and was regarded as one of their finest academy talents.
Chirivella has impressed with the youth side and has been rewarded with a few first-team appearances already.
He made his first team debut under Brendan Rodgers back in September. The youngster expressed his delight after signing the contract and will look to continue this development now.
He said: “It feels really good. I have worked really hard in the last year. I’m very proud to sign a new contract with one of the best teams in Europe.”
“When Liverpool wanted me to sign here, I had no doubt about it. But when I came here, I needed to perform really well because the club trusted me and I had to give them a reason why.”
“With pressure and [being] away from family, there are a lot of things that make it difficult, but now I’m pleased to be doing really well here.”
Liverpool lack a solid defensive midfielder/controller right now and Chirivella is easily their best talent in that position right now. If he can continue to polish his skills under Jurgen Klopp, a first team role is not far away for the young man.
Klopp has done extremely well with the young players so far and Chirivella can only benefit under the charismatic German.
The likes of Kevin Stewart and Sheyi Ojo have also done well under Klopp and the former also signed a new deal with Liverpool earlier this year.
Chirivella’s new deal will go down as a pleasant surprise amongst the Liverpool fans who were expecting the likes of Flanagan and Rossiter to bag new deals before the Spaniard.
