Manchester United have been firing all cylinders at the moment with two back to back league wins against two top four rivals. There is an air of relief and positive vibe around Old Trafford at the moment.
If anything that sticks as a fly in the ointment, if at all, is Radamel Falcao’s situation. The Colombian striker is clearly unhappy, as he struggles to get regular games under Louis van Gaal.
Going by the media reports, he doesn’t wishes to continue at Old Trafford even if United offer him the option of a permanent stay.
At the same time, there are reports in the media that suggest, he wants to continue playing in the Premier League, with Chelsea and Liverpool were reportedly interested in him.
Paul Parker, a former Manchester United player and now turned pundit, believes neither move makes sense for the Colombian. He writes:
“In the position he is in, could he trust Jose Mourinho to give him a run in the team?
“Not a chance. With Diego Costa there he wold be another Loic Remy, a bit-part player at best.
“As for Liverpool? Nice idea, but they are not quite big enough a club for Falcao; he must be looking for more than that. And being ex-United it’s unlikely the fans would take to him – especially if he did not hit the ground running.”
I agree with what Parker has said that both moves are pipe dreams and it won’t happen by stretch of imagination. But, the logic he gave regarding Liverpool, clearly shows his United bias more than anything else.
Liverpool do not need Falcao at the first place. Both Chelsea or Liverpool would hardly be willing to pay high transfer fee for a player who has managed just four goals all season, otherwise an utter flop.
Secondly, even if we remove the financial issues (though Liverpool are never going to offer him 260k-per-week wages), the club would never invest huge sums on a 29-year-old, as it would go against the club’s recruitment policy.
