Manchester City right-back Pablo Zabaleta has recently signed a deal with the Premier League runners-up – keeping him at the side until 2017. As reward for a fantastic season of personal note, the Citizens want to keep him at the Etihad for as long as possible.

The 28-year old was Manchester City’s Player of the Year for last season, and expressed his delight to be potentially ending his career with the Sky Blues.

Signing from Espanyol for £7M on deadline day during the 2008 summer transfer window, he’s gone on to become one of the best right-backs in the world.

Zabaleta has made over 170 appearances for Manchester City during his five years with the club – scoring six goals. Last season, he made 30 Premier League appearances, but was unable to win successive titles, and the side lost in the FA Cup final to Wigan Athletic.

‘I have been here for five years and it feels like home. Signing a contract extension with the club makes me feel very happy. I feel great here, I like the Premiership, and I think Manchester City are one of the clubs looking for success in the future. It is a club that is very well organised and when you see that everything works well you want to be here.’ – Pablo Zabaleta

The Argentine international added how he wants to lead the side to glory this season, and hopes he can play a pivotal role in achieving the success the side deserves.

He nearly joined Serie A champions Juventus before choosing Manchester City – citing how City’s offer was too good to turn down. He’s repaid the faith shown in him by the side’s former managers and is in the form of his entire career.
