Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville believes Chelsea will dominate for years if they end up signing Gareth Bale.
The Welsh winger has been linked with a move back to the Premier League, and Chelsea and Manchester United are thought to be interested in signing him.
Bale has come under strong criticism this season from the Madrid press, while he has yet to win over the fans.
“If [Bale] does become available, if Chelsea win that battle and let’s say they lose Oscar, or Ramires, or a player like that for £50-60million, and they get [Bale] for a net cost of £25m, I think the rest of the teams are in trouble for the next couple of years, I really do,” Neville said on Monday Night Football.
Manchester United are reportedly considering the option of signing Bale from Real Madrid, with The Telegraph’s Mark Ogden reporting Louis van Gaal, the United manager, will be given £100m to prise Bale away from Bernabeu.
The 25-year-old has scored 13 league goals with further eight assists to his name and retains the faith of his manager and the club president.
Bale is a good player but he is nowhere near the class of Ronaldo or Messi. When you spend £100m on a single player, you expect him to be the panacea to all the shortcomings that your team have at present. Bale at best can be a good support cast and hardly the man who could take the club to greater glory.
