Manchester United manager David Moyes has insisted that Marouane Fellaini will have greater impact at the club. English newspaper Daily Mail included Fellaini in the flop team of summer transfers, but Moyes says fans have yet to see the best from the player.
Moyes worked previously with Fellaini since his time with Everton and signed him on the transfer deadline day for a reported fee of £27m. However, the Belgian star has struggled to make a bright impression for his new club.
“He knows he can play better. When he came into the team, we were not playing as well as we would have hoped,” Moyes said as quoted in The Mirror.
“But, for a lot of people who join Manchester United, it doesn’t always happen as quickly as you would like. He needed to take time, but we threw him in very quickly.
Moyes feels the wrist injury he suffered had played a major role for his poor performances. Moyes further praised the midfielder’s versatality citing how at Everton he used to score regular goals operating as no 10 for the side.
He added as quoted in Belgian newspaper Sportwereld: “But in my last month at Everton he was great as a central midfielder. That’s his natural position and I want to use it here. I am convinced that we have not yet seen the best of him. He may have a greater impact (at United).”
Certainly, Moyes needs him to fire cylinders, as midfield dynamo Michael Carrick, who has signed a new contract extension, will be sidelined for few weeks through injury. This is time where Fellaini will have to prove his worth and leave a strong impact in absence of the England midfielder.
