Moussa Sissoko has set his sight on joining a big European club this summer. The 26-year-old didn’t enjoy a fruitful campaign with the Magpies last season but his stock has risen following an excellent all round performance for France in Euro 2016.

With Newcastle United being relegated to the Championship, Sissoko’s departure from the Tyneside club is inevitable. He has been linked with a host of European clubs but Newcastle have yet to receive a formal offer from any of his potential suitors.

Sissoko joined Newcastle in 2013 and has made 113 league appearances for the club. He feels he is more at home with the Premier League but at the same time would welcome a move abroad.

When asked his preferred destinations, he told L’Equipe (translated by Soccerlens’ in-house translator Manuel Traquete):

“It’s simple. When you are young and want to become a pro football player, your dream is to play for a big club like Real Madrid or Manchester United.”

Arsenal were reportedly interested in signing the French midfielder but the Gunners probably have cooled their interest in recent months following the arrival of Granit Xhaka.

Premier League giants Manchester United have considered him as a plan B option in case they fail to land Paul Pogba this summer. As it stands, United are definitely signing Pogba which means the Red Devils might not be interested in him anymore.

Another possible destination for Sissoko could be a move to Real Madrid. The European Champions are keen to sign him having missed out on Pogba and Andre Gomes and would be prepared to up to €40m for his signature, according to reports from Spain.

When asked if it’d be a pleasure to play for Madrid under Zidane, he said:

“It would be something amazing, but it’s not the case today. Everyone knows Zidane, the man he is and the coach he is becoming. He’s huge in the football world. But we’ll see what happens.”

He says there’s plenty of rumours going on around him and all he needs his agent to sort out a deal quickly for him so that he can concentrate on football ahead of the new season.
