Luke Shaw was expected to establish himself as one of the best full-backs in the Premier League when he joined Manchester United in the summer of 2014.
However, things have not quite gone according to plan for the former Southampton left-back. The 21-year-old picked up a season-ending injury against PSV last season, and has struggled to hold down a regular first-team place under Mourinho this season.
According to the latest report from The Times, Mourinho has not given Shaw a fair chance this season because of a personal grudge. Apparently, people close to the player suspect that Mourinho is unhappy because Shaw turned down the chance to sign for Chelsea when Mourinho was in charge of the Blues.
Furthermore, the report also adds that Shaw is disappointed with the manager’s criticisms. However, the left-back is ready to stay at Manchester United and fight for his future. It is evident that Mourinho has overlooked Shaw at times this season, but there could be a number of reasons for that.
Shaw is still struggling with match fitness issues, and was reportedly feeling pain in the leg he damaged against PSV earlier this month. While there could be truth to these reports of a personal grudge, it could easily be a case of the manager trying to ease the player into the team after a lengthy lay-off.
