Chelsea have confirmed their striker Didier Drogba will leave the club after Sunderland clash on Sunday.

The veteran rejoined Chelsea before the start of the season on a one year deal. The Blues host the Black Cats in the final game of the season and Stamford Bridge and the 37-year-old has admitted that his second spell at the West London club has come to an end.

“Today’s match is a time of celebration as we receive the Premier League trophy but we also say goodbye to one of our greatest ever stars as Didier Drogba has announced it will be his last game as a Chelsea player,” a statement read on Chelsea’s official website.

The former Ivory Coast international had earlier expressed his desire to continue playing, something which he was not able to achieve with Jose Mourinho’s side. Drogba confirmed that he will not retire from professional football as he remains confident that he still has the legs to continue.

“I want to play for at least one more season and in order to play more football I feel I need to go to another club. All the fans know my love for Chelsea and I hope to be back here in the future in another role,” the African striker said.

Drogba was the third choice striker at Chelsea, behind last two summer signings Diego Costa and Loic Remy. In the absence of these two players, the former Real Madrid manager has started with the Blues’ legend.

The striker has made seven starts in the league, while has come as a substitute on 20 occasions. He scored four goals and that includes a header during the 1-1 against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
