It was coming really. After Jose Mourinho made a sensational comment about his strike force (albeit could have said jokingly) and further dropping hints on the Blues’ long term transfer target Radamel Falcao, it became obvious that he will be asked to clarify the statements in his press conference.
Ahead of Chelsea’ Champions League knock out tie with Galatasaray, Mourinho was asked whether he is embarrassed that comments he made in private have become public. He replied as quoted by Sky Sports:
“I think you should be embarrassed as a media professional. I don’t think you are happy that, not you, but a (media) colleague is able to record a private conversation and make it public. I think you all should be a bit embarrassed because it is against all the ethics.
“I’m not defending what I said I am attacking something that is fundamental in your professional area. That person (who made it public) showed exactly what he is and what he doesn’t know about the job. From my perspective, the comment is obviously not a good one. It is not one that I would (make) in a serious way, in an official way in an interview.”
Mourinho in a private interview to French televsion station Canal plus revealed that his side is lacking a genuine goal scorer hinting strongly that he wishes to have Colombian striker Falcao. Further he admitted that getting the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani are not possible adding that Chelsea would try to secure Eden Hazard for long years at the club.
The Portuguese made a comment on Samuel Eto’o yesterday, claiming he is – “32-years-old, maybe 35”. When asked to clarify on it, he said:
“Samuel Eto’o is a four-times Champions League winner. It was with him that I had the best ever season of my career (at Inter Milan). He is one of the few players that has worked with me at a second different club and a manager never does that when he doesn’t like the player. He has no reason to be upset because also he said a few years ago that ‘Mourinho is the only manager in the world that I would never play for’ and after one year he was playing for me at Inter.”
Commenting on the match against Galatasaray, he refused to consider Chelsea as one of the favourites, but insisted once a team reaches the quarter-final stage, anything is possible from there on, citing that he won Champions League before when his team was not considered as favorites and lost the same competition being a favourite as well.
