PSV Eindhoven forward and Dutch international Memphis Depay has stated that he could leave his club this summer. However, a few days ago PSV manager Phillip Cocu said that ‘Mephis Depay as well as Giorgino Wijnaldum will stay at the club this summer’, as per Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.
The 20-year-old made his Eredivisie debut during the 2011/2012 campaign when former PSV coach Fred Rutten decided to bring him on for Zakaria Labyad against Feyenoord. Since then he fought his way into the squad, established himself as a regular starter, and now as one of the most important players for Cocu’s side.
As we all now, even the most important players will eventually leave their club. Especially when English giants Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are fighting for your signature.
So, the coach can express his feelings that he expects that Depay will stay at the club, but after all the player will decide whether he stays or not. That is exactly what Depay said, as per Ed Maylon of the Mirror.
“I have done my time at PSV but if nice clubs from big leagues ask, I will think about it. There is lots of interest but it is definitely an option to stay.”
“I understand fans want me to play well this season in Eindhoven, but I’m one who decides how my career will look, no one else.”
Only time will tell the fans of PSV if they will see their fast-rising star against Willem II Tilburg on the pitch this weekend. In spite of this, one thing is clear; The ‘Red-White Army’ will kick off their Eredivisie season at the ‘Koning Willem II Stadion’ with or without Depay.
