French club, Lyon, have submitted an improved offer, as compared to their previous £13m bid, for Manchester United winger, Memphis Depay. The Red Devils are ready to let the Dutch winger leave the club in the January transfer window.
According to reports from the Mirror, Depay could complete his transfer to Lyon within the next 48 hours. It shows that transfer talks are taking / have taken place at an advanced level, and probably United are close to agreeing to a deal for the winger.
Depay moved to Old Trafford from PSV Eindhoven for a fee of around £25m in 2015, but he has failed to justify his price-tag. He made 29 appearances for the club last season, but has struggled to make a strong impression under José Mourinho.
The Dutch winger has played seven times this season for United, but has started only once, in an EFL Cup win at Northampton back in September. He is not in the first team plans of his manager and has been told he can leave if United receive an acceptable fee.
Earlier this month, United rejected a £13m bid from Lyon, as the club were looking to recoup a significant portion of the money they spent on the Dutch winger. Lyon have returned with an improved bid, and United this time are ready to do business.
United have already sold Morgan Schneiderlin to Everton for a fee of £20m, and it seems Depay could be heading towards the Old Trafford exit door as well. Everton were reportedly interested in signing Depay, but the Toffees appear to have missed out on the 22-year-old winger.
The United move didn’t work out for Depay, but that doesn’t mean he is a bad player. He is still a very exciting talent. All he needs now is regular games under his belt, and hopefully he can recapture his old form at Lyon.
