Has McClaren only got 3 games left at Newcastle?

Former Newcastle United number 9 and radio personality Micky Quinn believes that Newcastle manager Steve McClaren only has three games to save his job on Tyneside.

After 8 games of the season, the North East side sit at the bottom of the premiership, with only 3 points, after draws against Southampton, Manchester United and Chelsea.  But as their league position suggests have suffered more losses than most, with the latest being a 6-1 second half massacre against Manchester City.

Newcastle’s next three games on paper are winnable games against Norwich City, Stoke City and the small matter of the Tyne-Wear Derby sandwiched between those two games.

The Toon have shown glimpses  of being a very good side, no less in the 2-2 draw against Chelsea at St James’ Park, when McClaren’s side dominated for most of the match, and if not for Ramires staging a last 15 minute fight may have won the game.

Newcastle showed for the first time some intent in the transfer market, having a net spend of £50 million, having bought players in key positions, but none of that intent has shown its way onto the pitch, with a lot of people in the game saying the Newcastle players lack any fight or spirit.

After two tough games against Chelsea and Man City, the next three have come at the right time for a struggling Newcastle side. A team that although seem to have finally getting the loyal Toon Army behind them, haven’t won a league game under new manager McClaren, and if results don’t go his way over the next few weeks, could be joining Dick Advocaat and Brendan Rogers on the unemployment line.

But if the Newcastle and Coventry legend Quinn is correct, and McClaren doesn’t get the results he needs to keep his job for his second spell in the North East, who will Lee Charnely, Graham Carr and Bob Moncur choose to replace him as not only the Toon boss, but the fourth member of their Football Board.
