Mauricio Pochettino has verbally agreed a five year contract extension with Tottenham that will keep him at the club till 2021.

The former Southampton manager has steered Spurs into second in the Premier League table, where they still have an outside chance of lifting the trophy, trailing leaders Leicester by seven points with only three games left to play.

The Argentine confirmed the news at a press conference on Friday. He said that it was an easy decision to make and saw no reasons to change his present club. He is expected to sign the contract in the next few days.

“It’s an easy decision,” he said as quoted by the Telegraph. “When you are happy and when you feel the love of the people and the potential of the club is massive. Why change?

“We create a good atmosphere on the training ground and I think we can achieve big things in the future. I believe in this project and this club. I want to stay here.”

Pochhetino’s success this season has led to speculations that other top European clubs may try to lure him away from the White Hart Lane.

Recently he admitted that he would love to return to his former club Paris Saint-Germain in the future that created a furore in the social media. He merely stated that he has a dream of returning to his old club, but it is becoming increasingly clear that he wants to build a legacy at Tottenham before moving elsewhere.

The Argentine had also been linked with a move to Manchester United earlier this season, with some reports even claiming he would be a good replacement for Louis van Gaal.
