Two major Spanish newspapers, Marca and Mundo Deportivo, have covered the transfer situation of Marco Reus. Marca, a newspaper close to Real Madrid, claim that Premier League giants Chelsea are serious about landing Reus and could offer €10m/year to land the German superstar.
Catalan based newspaper Mundo covered the story from Barca’s point of view. They feel, it is Manchester United and Bayern Munich who are deeply interested in signing him, rather than Chelsea.
Reus is an established international and would bolster any team in the world. Let us take a look why Chelsea should sign him next summer.
€25m for Reus? – that’s a bargain
Reus has a clause in his contract that would allow him to leave for €25m only. Although €25m is a lot of money, but for a player of his caliber and considering the market value of top players these days, getting him at such would represent a bargain deal. All Chelsea need to do is tempt him with a huge pay-package. If the reports are to be believed, Chelsea are ready to offer him around €10m per year on a lucrative contract. Furthermore, if they can include Andre Schurrle (Bild speculated that Dortmund could be willing to accept such deal) as a part of the deal, they might get Reus for a cheaper price as well.
Marquee name, huge signing
Chelsea have the best attacking unit in the entire Premier League. There is the trio of Oscar, Hazard and Willian, while Schurrle and Salah brings depth from the bench. Add Reus to it, and you have a dream attacking set up.
With due respect to both Willian and Schurrle, any Chelsea fan would love to see Reus in there in place of them. His signing will not only improve the squad depth, but Chelsea’s front three will be an envy for entire Europe, that may well match the might of Real Madrid’s trio of Ronaldo-Bale-Rodriguez or Barca’s Suarez-Neymar and Messi.
Reaching his peak, best years ahead
Like Hazard and Oscar who are just about to reach the peak of their form, Reus, 25, has the best years ahead of him. If he can settles down quickly then Chelsea are guaranteed to reap at least 4-6 good years from him, should he remain free from injuries.
In fact, Reus is already an established star. A well polished diamond. All he needs is a big platform to become a world class player. Chelsea can provide him that opportunity.
Versatility and goal scoring
Reus can play in multiple positions – on either flanks, behind the striker or sometimes as a striker as well. He has great tactical awareness that helps him adjust to any given conditions quickly. But the best feature of Reus’s game is his goal scoring prowess. In his past two seasons at Dortmund, he has scored 19 and 23 goals respectively for the German club. In that respect, he adds an extra dimension to the side, which will benefit Chelsea immensely.
Leadership quality and wealth of experience
No. He is not a captain of Dortmund but takes the armband in absence of Mats Hummels. He loves to lead by examples and therefore well loved by his team-mates.
He is a regular international having played 23 times for Germany. Plus he has Champions League experience under his belt, so will take no time to get into first team squad at Chelsea. Taking all these factors into consideration it is safe to say that the Blues should make formal move for Marco Reus in January or next summer.
