Massive boost for United as City miss out on star player for Manchester derby

Soccer - Barclays Premier League - Manchester City v Norwich City - Etihad StadiumManchester City have suffered a massive blow after their manager Manuel Pellegrini confirmed star midfielder David Silva will be out of action for the next three weeks.

The Spain international picked up an injury early in the game during City’s Capital One Cup defeat to Newcastle United at the Etihad earlier this midweek. The midfielder was replaced and it is now confirmed Silva has sustained knee ligament damage.

The Premier League champions face Manchester United in the Manchester derby at the Etihad on Sunday. The Citizens will be without the services of Silva after the former Real Madrid manager gave the latest update on the player’s injury.

Yaya Toure also limped out against Newcastle and Pellegrini claims the former Barcelona midfielder will be assessed before the derby.

“David has a problem with his ligament and he will be out for about three weeks, so he will not be available,” Pellegrini said in his pre-match press conference.

“David is a very important player but I always say the same thing. We have a squad and we have to replace him with another player.”

“Yaya has a small problem. We’ll see tomorrow but I think he will -be fine,” City manager added.

Silva is capable of turning the course of the game and has troubled the opposition on numerous occasions with his talent. City are without a win in the last three matches played in all competitions.

With Silva out of action and Toure doubtful, City are likely to struggle unless they step up against Louis van Gaal’s side on Sunday.
