Latest update on the Paul Pogba transfer saga:
Manchester United are close to sealing a €125 million (£105m) deal for Paul Pogba, according to reports in Italy.
Italian newspaper Gazzetta Dello Sport are claiming that United’s offer has been accepted.
Pogba has been chased by United all summer and have been favourites to land the Juventus star since Real Madrid admitted to pulling out of an offer.
The report says that his agent, Mino Raiola, is currently in Manchester to discuss the possible sale of the player with the Premier League giants.
Should this report be accurate, the deal would be worth around €185 million in total as Pogba is believed to have been offered a five-year contract worth €12 million per season. This works out at a staggering €230,000-per-week deal for the midfielder.
The world record fee does come with various bonuses, rumoured to be UEFA Champions League wins and Ballon d’Ors.
Paul Pogba would become José Mourinho’s fourth signing, following Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimović and Henrikh Mkhitaryan already this summer.
The 23-year-old has been excellent in his four seasons at Juventus since leaving Old Trafford on a free transfer – winning the Serie A title on each occasion. He was widely-expected to leave Turin this summer to show his ambition, with little else left to prove in Italy.
It would be a real statement of intent from Manchester United should they wrap up a deal to bring Paul Pogba to the Premier League. The box-to-box midfielder offers power and energy in the middle of the park, has excellent technical ability and has scored some cracking long-range goals during his time in Italy.
Mourinho had been expected to sign a centre midfielder this summer to replace the ageing Michael Carrick, whilst Bastian Schweinsteiger’s future with the club is also in doubt.
