Manchester City have more injury worries for the upcoming derby against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Their skipper Vincent Kompany is doubtful for the crucial clash against his side’s arch-rivals in the Premier League clash on Sunday, according to Manuel Pellegrini. He last featured in the domestic competition during City’s 4-1 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on 26 September.

The Belgium international picked up a calf injury and was an unused substitute against Bournemouth. However, he returned to action in the midweek Champions League clash against Sevilla, where City won 2-1 with a help of a late goal from summer signing Kevin De Bruyne.

City manager is not willing to take any risk with Kompany and Pellegrini is not willing to rush his skipper against United.

“We have a lot of different things to think about for the next game,” City manager said, as quoted by Talksport.

“Vincent is just coming back from a long injury that kept him out for a month, and it was probably a risk to give him the responsibility to play in this important game. Tomorrow we will start thinking about the derby and we will see the way the players recover.”

Despite the calf injury, Kompany recovered and played for Belgium in the European championship qualifiers against Israel. That has reportedly not gone well with the former Real Madrid manager, who was left frustrated with his player’s decision to play for his national side.

Belgium coach Marc Wilmots revealed Kompany explained him the injury is not serious, which convinced him to feature him against Israel.

“I talked to Vincent on the phone yesterday. His injury is not that serious. There is no burst. On Monday he starts to run again,” Wilmots said earlier this month.

“He won’t play Saturday against Andorra but there’s a big chance that against Israel he will be fit to play. Anyway I wanted Vincent with us. He will follow his schedule with us. But we won’t take risks with him.”

City already are without two of their star player Sergio Aguero and David Silva for a month. In their absence, the former Chelsea star, summer signing Raheem Sterling and Wilfried Bony need to step up when they face Louis van Gaal’s side this weekend.
