Louis van Gaal has confirmed defender Marcos Rojo, summer signing Bastian Schweinsteiger and goalkeeper David de Gea will all miss Manchester United’s upcoming clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Argentine international was a part of the national squad for the 2015 Copa America where they lost to host nation Chile in the final earlier in July. He recently join the squad and lacks match fitness after his extended summer break.

Schweinsteiger arrived at United from Bayern Munich this summer and he was already injured himself during the pre-season training. However, the World Cup winner with Germany remains doubtful for the first match of the season.

De Gea has been constantly linked with a move to Real Madrid and has not signed a new deal. The former Barcelona manager has decided to drop him for the Tottenham clash for the same reason.

The Red Devils will host the north London club in the season-opener at Old Trafford on Saturday and the trio will miss the weekend league clash.

“We have no injuries. It’s unbelievable! But it’s not possible for Rojo to be match fit as he was the last player to come back,” Van Gaal told MUTV.

“Schweinsteiger came also at the last moment out of his holidays so I don’t think he is fit enough. We have to build the fitness he needs.”

“It is not easy for David De Gea to manage his situation now. You know that we have problems with De Gea. He shall not play, so I don’t have any concerns [about him this weekend].”
