For reasons unknown, a section of the UK press are hell-bent in propagating this idea that Jose Mourinho is almost certain to become next manager of Manchester United. The deal is as good as done. Almost on a daily basis, there are some transfer rumours relating to Mourinho – about his impending move, the players he wants to bring and so on.
Spanish football expert Balague said recently:
I’ve always said the same. No deal with Mourinho has been done. Will it be done? Who knows, but no deal has been done. And there are enough people at Man Utd that don’t want Mourinho.
For Man Utd fans, there are more coaches than Mourinho. I know the appeal of having Mourinho, but have a look at what Cocu has done with PSV, what Allegri has done with Juventus, what Tuchel is doing with Dortmund. They will realise that there is more than one coach in this world.
This line – there are enough people at Man Utd that don’t want Mourinho – is important here. Red Issue, a popular Manchester United fans group, have noted that some of the senior board members at United are against appointing the Portuguese.
The reason why I’m saying this is because you’ll find loads of reports claiming Mourinho wants this and that player – but you can hardly give credence to it, especially considering that there is no certainty whether he will at all be appointed as United’s next manager. Moot point: take all such reports with a pinch of salt.
Mourinho is eager to sign Juventus striker Alvaro Morata for Manchester United. The Spain striker has been a reported target of Liverpool as well.
Real Madrid reportedly have a £23.7m buyback clause on their former player, which they plan to activate before selling the striker to the highest bidder.
Morata has struggled to cement regular starting place under Allegri this season, but he has proved time and again that he is the man for the big occasion, after producing a virtuoso display in Old Lady’s Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich in the second leg of Round of 16 tie.
Madrid value Morata at around £40m, a price United can easily afford to pay. Morata, however, may reject both United and Liverpool, if both of them fail to qualify for Champions League next season.
Latest on Juan Mata & De Gea
Mourinho (provided he takes charge at United) will reject all offers for David de Gea, according to Daily Star.
De Gea signed a four year contract with United after failing to complete his move to Real Madrid on the transfer deadline day last summer.
Will Madrid make an offer for him again? There are suggestions that Zinedine Zidane is against signing De Gea, as he feels that Keylor Navas is doing a great job for the club. Madrid do not consider De Gea as their priority target any more.
The same cannot be said about Mata, who is likely to leave the club, should Mourinho take charge at United. The Spaniard is wanted by Fenerbahce this summer, according to reports in Turkey.
The Turkish club have a good relationship with United after successfully negotiating deals to take Robin van Persie and Nani to the club. And they make succeed in luring Mata as well, with United looking to offload him in the summer. Inter Milan are also interested in signing the former Chelsea play maker.
