According to reports in English media outlet Telegraph, Manchester United could consider terminating midfielder Anderson’s contract if there are no transfer offers in the upcoming January transfer window. The Brazilian is currently on £60,000-a-week and has six months remaining in his contract for the Red Devils.
The 26 year old who was signed from Porto in 2007 for a whopping £26m had hardly made an impact with the Red Devils. Anderson had earlier failed to impress new manager Louis Van Gaal in the pre season and he has been told that he can head for the exit gate. United could pay the player £1.4m, the remaining cost left in his contract and ask him to find a new club if there are no transfer offer in the winter transfer market. Anderson had earlier spent a six month loan spell at Italian side Fiorentina last season but the player failed to impress during his stint. Thus the Florence based side rejected the chance to sign him on a permanent deal in the summer.
Anderson has featured for United only twice this season. He played in the 4-0 Capital One Cup defeat at MK Dons and then made a substitute appearance in the 0-0 Premier League draw at newly promoted side Burnley. Moreover he has not made the squad selected by Van Gaal in the recent months which clearly indicates that his fate has been decided.
United had earlier terminated Fabien Barthez’s contract in June 2004 and paid the French goalkeeper £5m and had asked him to leave the club. Is Anderson set too follow the same fate in January? Ow will he be able to find new takers.
