Former Chelsea player Mateza Kezman has insisted that Manchester United skipper Nemanja Vidic will sign a new contract at the Old Trafford club.

The 32-year-old has been the rock at the defence for Manchester United, since he joined the club in 2006. While Vidic’s leadership and presence at the back is still valued, his recurrent injuries are a huge concern to the club.

Vidic’s agent, Silvano Martina has confirmed the Serbian is almost certain to leave Old Trafford when his contract expires at the end of the season.

“At the moment, I would rule out an extension with Manchester United,” said Martina.

“Vidic, given his contract situation, has several teams looking at him. For the time being we remain calm.”

Now, Kezman who is a former national team-mate of Vidic claims that the United skipper will sign a new contract. He spoke to talksport:

“Nemanja Vidic is top and player and big friend of mine. I spoke to him a few months ago and he said then that he was waiting to see what will happen with his contract.

“I would give him a new contract. It’s true he’s not the player he was a few years ago, he’s a bit injury-prone, but he’s still a leader. Man United need him in the dressing room, around the young players.

“He’s not unhappy. He’s been there for years and would like to stay for another season. He loves the club, the city, the fans, everybody.

“I’m sure he will do his best to stay at United if they offer him a contract.”

Turkish club Galatasaray will offer the United defender up to £3.4million a season after tax while French giants Monaco are also willing to get his signature as well.

The Mirror reported that Moyes is ready to offer Vidic a new deal and is desperate to keep his skipper. The Read Devils boss wants to offer the defensive lynchpin a 12-months extension on his current £90,000-a-week contract.
