Manchester United winger Shinji Kagawa’s agent has insisted that the Japanese will stay at the Old Trafford, despite the imminent arrival of Juan Mata from Chelsea.
Mata is all set to join Manchester United after both the clubs have agreed the transfer fee. His signing would serve as a huge boost to the United camp, but it could pave the way for Kagawa’s exit as well.
The Japanese star has struggled to replicate his best form since he joined from Borussia Dortmund in 2012 and has failed to command a regular starting place under David Moyes.
Kagawa’s future has been well speculated in the media and there are even suggestions that the imminent arrival of Mata would signal the end of the player’s career at Old Trafford.
The 24-year-old has been linked with a move back to Dortmund while a switch to La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid has also been reported in the media.
Kagawa’s agent Thomas Kroth, insists that his client will stay at Manchester United while Mata’s arrival won’t affect his future.
“At this moment I am sure Shinji will stay. There has been no contact and so it is just rumours,” Kroth told Sky Sports. “No, it is my opinion that he will stay.”
Mata is a versatile play-maker whose best position is no 10, behind the striker role. However, United have Wayne Rooney and Shinji Kagawa in that position already. Rooney is vital to Moyes’ plans at the moment, therefore, the axe might fall on Kagawa, who has made only seven starts in the Premier League this season and has yet to open his scoring account.
